Usually people or more precisely PC users think that if they use a great hardware combination or specification they will achieve a constant PC performance forever. Let me tell you this is merely not the hardware part that decides your PC performance rather a PC is blend of hardware, operating system and application programs that are installed in the PC. Also all these three are the major causes that decide if the PC will be working well all the time without showing any slow PC problem. Unlike a hardware component software (OS and application) is very complex structure and the chances of getting affected are higher in software than in hardware components. Thus apparently the focus should be on an OS and its application programs comparatively.
Broadly we may segregate factors that affect PC performance as follows:-
System RAM- RAM or random access memory or the main memory in any PC is the most important place where all the applications and other system software get loaded and subsequently they run. The memory is constantly needed all the time however the importance of greater memory increases when we run huge applications like any gaming software. Using an additional RAM is the best solution if your PC is running short of main memory. If your memory is not sufficient you will encounter slow PC problem very often.
Operating system and Microprocessor- an OS also affects your PC’s overall speed. For an instance windows vista is comparatively a slower system than windows XP. In windows vista there are many such features that consume more memory and CPU time hence affects the speed. This has been resolved with windows 7 now. Similarly a processor is the most essential part of any PC which process all the applications, services, OS and everything that runs on the machine.
How many software programs you installed- If you have installed too many programs in your PC, they are also going to affect your PC performance for sure. Unwanted programs occupy space in your hard drive and may conflict with each other. Removing the unwanted programs makes sense and it certainly gives some contribution to speed up your PC’s performance.
Visual effects in the PC- visual effect do not help to run any application in the PC but they consume CPU time all the time and resulting in slow speed. By default windows XP windows vista and windows 7 come with preinstalled huge graphics and flashy features. You may lower down these graphics and can enhance your computer’s speed to an extent.
CPU usage- Task manager is the place where you can check the current CPU usage of the system. If CPU usage is very high this means there is something wrong or any particular process keeps running on in the background. Most of the time if your CPU usage is very high this means there are chance of any infection in your PC. It is also possible that a virus may not be visible in task manager but still it keeps on running. If this is the case with your PC you need to eliminate the infection (Virus, spyware, Trojan etc) from your system.
